After finding letters, archival memories, and photographs belonging to my grandfather, a personal search began.
To find my way, I imagined a map surrounded by symbolic cities that tell our relationship, the distance, the closeness, and everything in between. In three cities, PORT OF TRACES, MOUNTAIN OF SACRIFICE, and BRIDGE OF PASSAGE, I perform a ritual to reconnect with my grandfather, whom I never knew. These cities represent the places where he was born (Morcone), worked (Tamines) and died (Rimini).

I started from the last one, collecting some soil to put in the first urn. At each next stop, I buried the previous urn and collected new soil to keep in the next one, until the circle was complete. A way to try to create a connection, making the soil travel through the places where he lived.
Next to these, there are two other symbolic cities, RUINS OF ANCESTORS and FOREST OF NEGLECTED MEMORIES, where the gesture took a visual form and found a place in the pages of the book.

Dopo aver trovato lettere, memorie d'archivio e fotografie appartenenti a mio nonno, è iniziata una ricerca personale.
Per orientarmi ho immaginato una mappa circondata da città simboliche che raccontano la nostra relazione, la distanza, la prossimità, e tutto ciò che sta in mezzo. In tre città, PORTO DELLE TRACCE, MONTE DEL SACRIFICIO, e PONTE DEL TRAPASSO compio un rituale per riconnettermi con mio nonno, che non ho mai conosciuto. Queste città representano rispettivamente i luoghi in cui è nato (Morcone), ha lavorato (Tamines) e dove è morto (Rimini).

Sono partito da quest'ultima, raccogliendo un po' di terra da riporre nella prima urna. A ogni tappa successiva, seppellivo l'urna precedente e raccoglievo nuova terra da custodire nella successiva, fino a completare il cerchio. Un tentativo di stabilire un legame, facendo viaggiare la terra nei luoghi in cui ha vissuto.
Accanto a queste, esistono altre due città simboliche, ROVINE DEGLI ANTENATI e BOSCO DELLE MEMORIE TRASCURATE, in cui il gesto ha preso forma in modo visivo, e ha trovato posto nelle pagine del libro.
